Voicemail Services

1. How does voicemail work?

Our company has a large capacity voicemail server that is able to accept and process large volume of calls. We assign you a telephone number. That number can be published or you can forward your own number to it. When called it rings into our bank of servers. Our system will then answer the caller with your personal greeting. Due to sophisticated trunking capabilities, we are able to accept multiple simultaneous calls from your telephone number so that your callers never receive a busy signal.

2. How do I know my number?

Your number is located on your Application for Service. It is the “DID (Source code)”. You may also call our customer service center at 1-800-873-0444 for assistance.

3. How do I call forward my business phone to voicemail?

Subscribe to the Telephone Company’s custom calling feature “Call Forwarding”. Call forwarding lets you forward calls to another number (your voicemail number). Call forwarding needs to be programmed each time you want to activate and de-activate the feature.

To activate call forwarding:

  1. At the dial tone, press 72 # for SBC & * 72 for Verizon. Dial 1172 on a rotary phone.
  2. After a four-second pause, a second tone sounds.
  3. Dial you voice mail number provided.
  4. At the first sound of a ring, hang-up and repeat the first three steps. A tone confirms that your line has been forwarded.

4. How do I de-activate call forwarding?

To de-activate call forwarding:

  1. At the dial tone, press 73 # for SBC & *73 for Verizon. Dial 1173 on a rotary phone.
  2. Two tones indicate that call forwarding is cancelled.

5. How else can I have my phone answered by voicemail?

Busy Line Transfer and Alternate Answering is another Telephone Company feature. This is sometimes referred to as Busy/No answer transfer.

  1. Busy Line Transfer – If the line is busy, it will automatically forward to your voicemail number. Subsequent calls will be tested for busy. If the line is not busy, you will be able to answer.
  2. Alternate Answering – If the phone rings and is unanswered, it will automatically be transferred to your voicemail number after a pre-programmed number of rings. The pre-programming takes place in the telephone company’s central office at the time you subscribe to the feature. It can only be changed by calling the phone company. There may be a charge fee from the telephone company to change the ring count.
  3. Another less used method is called “Remote Call Forwarding”. Remote call forwarding is programmed at the central office and is permanent. The local number never rings. Remote call forwarding gives the user a local presence in an area where he might not have an office.
